Many people have a doubt about dating through apps and website which makes them think that does online dating work? Hence, check this answers to know if it will work for you or not.
Lately, there has been lot of talking about whether or not online dating really works. It is natural to questions about something like that because nowadays everything we do is online right from ordering supplies to ordering food all is done via internet. So, it is obvious that we turn to internet when it comes to dating as well but in this case I have to say we need to know if it really works because ordering bad food online is one thing but finding the wrong life partner just because online dating site suggested it is an entirely different matter. Hence, here we are to explore the different aspects of online dating and find out answers to does online dating work or not.
If one thing we know humans is that we are inconsistent with what we really want. So, it goes into online dating as well because we have to fill a form and give them some information to work with in order to pair us with the right person but therein lies our problem which is that we don’t really know what we want. Hence, I say sometimes they may match us with the right person, but sometime they may pair us with a person that we can’t even tolerate for a minute. Hence the question is asked, does online dating work?. This question in turn is answered by another question which is “Do we really know what we want?” Until and unless you’re absolutely sure that you have filled the form perfectly you can’t really say that online dating does or doesn’t work.
Firstly let me just say that technology nowadays has helped us in every aspect of our life and it has given us the choices that lot of other people didn’t have but in case of dating the more choices we have the more confused we get because this is the matter of our entire life and we don’t really want to carry any regrets. So, when we sign up on a dating site we are approached by a lot of other members, ladies more than men but in the end it’s like flipping through the pages of a magazine which never ends containing the pictures of men/women which you can date if you want. And you have to choose the one from this vast list to date with having hundreds of other options, I know, we are suppose to be monogamous but if you’re going to keep a hundred wrapped chocolates and asked me to choose only one and no one is in the room, well then I would be tempted too.
FAKE OR REAL
One really bad thing about online dating is that people can lie on their profile like they say that they are 6 ft tall when they are really just 5’6” or something like that and the weird thing is no one can tell because well it’s online dating and not face to face yet. The example I have used is the simple one which if you love the person you can get over it but some people lie about their age like old women lies to get young guys and the same goes for men as well. Some people say they like outdoor activities because they think it would get them more dates but in all you are just making it worse because if you are going to pretend to be someone else than you’re going to be paired with someone you don’t want.
No one really knows what the matching techniques for these dating websites are and if they even work or not but one thing is for sure they are certainly not going to work if you lie about yourself in the forms. And as far as I know they use an algorithm which matches your interest with other applicants and the two who are most common becomes the first choice and so on. But if this is right then there is always the chance of human error and the matter of looks, what we really prefer, and our geography like if I live in a country and I am matched with someone in another country or even state for that matter can get really hard in the long run. So, one needs to consider a lot of things which are practical when going through the matching techniques, I know it doesn’t sound so romantic but it is what goes in the background and one of the biggest problem is no one can say how much you’re willing to do in the name of love because that cannot be calculated by any equation after all that’s the best thing about us humans.
Once we are matched with some people it is on us to send them a message or reply to someone for that matter which is what pre-checking is all about. We only get to know the things the other person is willing to tell and if we are impressed then we can go through with it. However, sometimes the other person is great, but just doesn’t know how to show it or if the person is shallow but is really great at showing off then we have ourselves a missed opportunity. Other than that there is chatting which can help you get a sense of the person and if than you feel comfortable you can go on a date with that person but even chatting can only get you so far.
Reality check is to see if you can really work it out with this person for the long haul. This is just to know where you stand in the whole dating scenario if you want to meet or is it even practical to go on a date with the other person. Like there are a lot of scenarios which we have not even thought of before chatting like if you stay far from each other or if you are, kind of, well an Amish or anything that can get in the way in future which needs to be said before it is too late.
Well that’s it, I think I have covered all the basic aspects of online dating and so now it’s time to see if it really works. Well, first off I think to judge online dating we need to set some rules like what means that it worked like for OkCupid if two people have exchanged four messages then they are paired successfully which you can agree or disagree with, it just depends what you see as a success. Some dating site says it is a success because if they paired the two people together and they start exchanging messages then it is a success but some consider a marriage or a long term relationship as a success, to these people I would like to point out it is called dating for a reason because if it were meant forever then it would be a marriage and nowadays even that is not guaranteed.
ONLINE DATING IS DIFFERENT
Another thing I would like to say about online dating is that it’s not that different from regular dating, it just added some step to a relationship like we are online dating then we are face to face dating and then we are in a relationship to marriage. The way I see it is that online dating has just broadened the door of relationship exponentially which can be good or bad for you depends on how you see it. Because I have seen some people loving online dating and some people absolutely hating it like say a guy now has a vast choice to hook up with girls and if he is looking for something casual but he lies then finds a girl who likes him and then they hook up and the guy never calls back. Now in this example for a guy it worked perfectly but for the girl it didn’t. Always remember some people are always out there to take advantage of you and so it depends entirely on you if you let them.
Lastly, I would like to remind you that online dating has not changed the traditional way of meeting the guy in a bar and fall in love with him all it did was increase the number of guys in the bar. And as for the question does online dating really works so my answer would be it doesn’t matter the only thing that matters is that can you make it work for you.
Because if you want it to work than it can but then too you shouldn’t give the traditional way of meeting people as it is a million to one chance that you meet the right person so might as well try online dating and see if it works for you and sometimes a little bit more exposure may be good for you. And on a personal note I have some friends who got married to someone they met online or at least had a relationship with them and some other friends who actually loathe online dating and say that it is a tedious process and they might as well pick up a lottery, so, what can I say?
Well in the end I would say that it can work if you want it to but it’s not going to be easy after all it is in fact a lot of work, but then again so are relationships.
